Alex Gbayee, Consul General, l Liberia – Chicago (Ret.)
“Give, and you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full–pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, running over, and poured into your lap. The amount you give will determine the amount you get back.”
Like 6:38 (New Living Translation)
Alex Gbayee is internationally known for his life work representing the interests of Liberia as Consul General for Liberia in Chicago. He credits his success to Church of God In Christ (COGIC) missionaries who, 60 years ago, gave him the gift of education in his home village that is two miles outside of Tugbaken. He now returns home offering the same gift of education to his kindred expanded family with the intent to create a permanent education and vocational training complex that will be a portal to success for hundreds more for generations to come.
“I asked the Lord in 2001, ‘What can I do to better the living conditions of my people who have no modern facilities. Who still walk two miles to get fresh water that is carried on their head and sleep on floor mats in one room huts.’ ” Baba Gbayee says in the wake of the 2014 Ebola epidemic, “The Lord revealed to me, as clear as day,
‘Build a vocational high school with on-the-job training’.”
The Church of God in Christ supports this effort through a generous Tugbaken land donation where the school will be built in fulfillment of Alex Gbayee’s vision. It is through the benevolence of individuals with the shared mission to help the less fortunate that the Liberia Hope Foundation can move forward with its work in the spirit of the missionaries that changed Consul General Gbayee’s life.
